Julia Burzyńska earned a BSc with a focus on physics from Amsterdam University College and is currently working on a master’s in physics at the University of Amsterdam. She was a student and later a lab teaching assistant for Dr. Forrest Bradbury’s “Maker Lab” course. This open inquiry lab course enables student agency by using student-chosen sensors controlled by self-programmed Arduinos, and available online resources of the “Maker Community”. With a toolbox of basic equipment, the students conceive, design, build, run, and analyse experiments with asynchronous teacher oversight.
